The Thirty Years’ War Revisited

by Dick Harrison

Every European nation has its own view of The Thirty Years’ War and in each country it is portrayed differently – Sweden, Germany, Spain, France, Denmark, Portugal, Italy and so on.

In this well informed and well written book Harrison takes an unusual overview of the great and lengthy war. We follow horsemen and footmen, nuns and abbots, cobblers and peasants as well as kings and cardinals. It also becomes apparent that the Thirty Years’ War was a global conflict fought on several continents and in reality a first world war. A fascinating book for history lovers!

If through this book I can help to create more interest in all those aspects of the conflict that we for centuries have chosen to disregard, then it must be considered as a victory.

Dick Harrison

An outstandingly readable book that delivers a clear account of the War, skillful assessment of its events and valuable insights.
